Middletown Arrests: Oct. 8-18

The following police reports come from the Middletown Police public information officer. Individuals named here reflect charges filed, never a conviction.

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

Oct. 18

DUI, FAILURE TO DRIVE IN PROPER LANE, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WITHOUT A LICENSE — At 1:31 p.m., police were called about Shawn A. Jones, 34, of Newfield Street was driving his mother's Pontiac Grand Am at Grand and Main streets and, according to the report, was intoxicated.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 10:01 p.m., a woman called police, saying her boyfriend, George M. Ward, 62, of Spring Street, threw a dining room chair at her, according to the police, after they argued about her son.

TWO COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — Shadora C. Arrington, 23, of Plaza Drive turned herself in on an outstanding warrant.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — At 5:50 a.m., Jessica Torres, 31, of Cricket Lane, Elizabethtown, Ky., turned herself in on an outstanding warrant. 

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — At 4:36 p.m., Ariel Torres, 22, of Chapman Street, New Britain, tried to contact his ex-girlfriend by calling her cell phone, who is the father of her 4-year-old daughter, according to the report. When police dialed the number, Torres answered and admitted, according to the report, that he called to find out when he could pick up his daughter. 

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — At 1:52 p.m., Anthony Jelliffe, 27, of Russell Street had stopped by the apartment of of the mother of his children to drop off money, according to the report, under the door. Police called him and he admitted doing so then met officers at the Gulf Station on South Main Street.

TWO COUNTS VIOLATION OF PROBATION — At 7:45 p.m., Ryan C. Nash, 28, of New Britain Avenue, Newington, was picked up on an outstanding warrant on Andrew Street.

Oct. 15

SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 10:30 a.m., Jermaine McCrea, 35, of Erin Street turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

Oct. 14

DUI, TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS — At 10:47 a.m., Jeffrey C. Miller, 29, of Woodbury Circle was involved in a car crash on Saybrook Road, according to the report, while driving a Honda Pilot, and rear-ended a Hyundai Elantra, causing it to hit a telephone poll. Miller told police he just left his house to get items at Stop & Shop for his 5-year-old son's birthday and, the report says, smelled of alcohol. He told police he drank nearly a full beer and had a shot of Southern Comfort. The report says Miller failed a sobriety test and his blood alcohol levels registered .209 and .216. 

Oct. 13

TRESPASS, INTERFERING WITH OFFICER — At 10:30 p.m., Brian J. Scerra, 23, of Summer Hill Road, was at Young's Printing on Court Street while intoxicated, and when police arrived, the report says, he was found in the alley at First Church. He had cuts on his knuckles and blood all over his shirt, police say, and admitted to being in a fight with people on Main Street. When asked if he need an ambulance, the report says, he got into a fighting stance, refused to sit down after repeated requests and two police officers each Tazed him, causing prongs to be in his back, chest and leg.

Oct. 12

INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, FAILURE TO HAVE LIGHTS LIT, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE — At 2:45 a.m., Hamza Hiedo, 42, of no certain address, was driving a Jeep Cherokee Laredo on Washington Street ahead of a cruiser with two officers inside, according to the report, with no lights on.

Oct. 11

SECOND-DEGREE FORGERY — At 10:21 p.m., Barbara Palanzo, 75, of Highland Avenue was involved in a domestic disturbance and found with an outstanding warrant. 

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, FAILURE TO DRIVE AT REASONABLE DISTANCE — At 8:05 p.m., Eugene J. Burke, 50, of Applewood Lane, Naugatuck, was involved in a car accident at Washington and High streets, and, according to the report, the other driver heard Burke say, "sorry, I'm drunk," and he drove away. Police say the victim took a photo of Burke's license plate and Naugatuck Police officers called him and he met them at headquarters and confessed. He was unable to be charged with DUI, the report says, because two hours had passed.

Oct. 8

RESTRICTED TURN, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE IN VIOLATION OF LICENSE CLASSIFICATION USE OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF NARCOTIC — At 4:17 p.m., Troy Gustafson, 50, of Town Colony Drive was driving a Toyota Camry on Main Street and failed to signal while making a sharp turn into the left lane, according to the report. Police say crack cocaine (.2 grams) inside the car, the report says, and torn plastic baggies.
