Middletown Arrests: March 3-14

The following information was provided by Middletown and Newington police public information officers. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 2:36 p.m., Gunjan Pathak, 21, of Training Hill Road was arrested at WalMart on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington by Newington Police.

SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — Dean A. Norris, 28, of Pine Street, Bristol, was in a fight with his girlfriend at her home on Rodgers Road, and punched her face and head numerous times, causing injuries, the report says. He admitted to officers he had punched her and "deserved to be arrested," the report says.

March 13

FIRST-DEGREE CRIMINAL TRESPASS, THIRD-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, INTERFERING WITH AN OFFICER, ASSAULT PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — Orlando Rodriguez, 27, of South Colony Street, Meriden, was in a verbal argument with his girlfriend and, the report says, grabbed a knife and sliced up her living room couch. Police say he denied doing so and admitted to throwing a couple of lamps around. The report says the couch was obviously cut with a sharp object. A little while later, he returned to the apartment after being released by police, the report says, and struggled with officers, causing one to almost fall down a flight of stairs. Rodriguez spit on an officer and threatened to hurt them.

VIOLATION OF CONDITIONS OF RELEASE, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — At 12:38 p.m., police were called to a home on East Main Street for an assault in which both parties sounded intoxicated on the 911 call, the report says. The victim said Dawn M. Jarvis, 43, of East Main Street had just left a detox program at CVH Merritt Hall and they had been dating for three years.The report says the two were in the kitchen and Jarvis became irrational and punched the victim in the face and pushed him against the counter. The report say she admitted doing to to take his liquor bottle. Turns out, Jarvis had been arrested earlier that day for a domestic, police say. 

March 5

THREE COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 9:30 p.m., Maurizio J. Cardella, 50, of Congdon Street East was picked up at home on an outstanding warrant.

ILLEGAL SALE OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, DISTRIBUTION OF WITHIN 1,500 FEET OF SCHOOL, POSSESSION OF NARCOTICS — At 11:01 p.m., police were called to 468 Main Street about the attic of one building which is accessed by the other building and people hide out there to sleep and urinate, according to the report. Eduardo Vasquez III, 32, of no certain address was seen with his fly down and a woman with him with a bag of crack cocaine on the floor totaling 4.2 grams, the report says.

POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO SELL, DISTRIBUTION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES, POSSESSION OF NARCOTICS — Narcotics units have been surveilling the corner of Grand and Mai Streets where they say drug activity, prostitution and violent street crimes routinely take place. At 7:25 p.m., the report says, police saw an unidentified man walk to the corner, pace around, and call someone on his cell phone.

Jamal J. Lawrence, 27, of no certain address and a woman approached him, police say, and gave a hand signal, then remove a baggie from his pants and the other man had cash. The report says Lawrence's bag had 21 grams of crack in it, 11 baggies of heroin and $116 in cash. The unidentified man ran away from police. The report says Lawrence admitted he had the bag of drugs but the man who ran away sold it to him and when asked how much he paid for it, he said it was given to him "on account."

His telephone, police say, kept ringing and getting texts asking for 20 and 30 pieces, street slang for $20 and $30 worth of crack and the phone had a number of pictures of the man who ran on it, indicating he knew the man. He has a long record of arrests for burglary, failure to appear, possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct, violation of probation and of protective order.

The street value of the drugs was found to be $1,130 in total.

On July 9, 2011, Lawrence was charged with criminal impersonation, possession with intent to sell crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked drivers license. 

March 4

INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, OPERATION WHEN REGISTRATION SUSPENDED — At 6:05 p.m., Anthony T. Kelly, 29, of Bank Street, Waterbury, was driving a Mercedes on Old Mill Road toward Westfield Street. He told police he was waiting for his tax return to get the registration "fixed."

March 3

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 10:34 a.m., Gail A. Brodeur, 54, of Brainerd Hill Road, Higganum, was at Stop & Shop on East Main Street when a loss prevention officer saw her conceal merchandise in a canvas shopping bag and leave without paying, the report says. She admitted taking 10 items worth $91.40, according to police.
