Middletown Arrests: March 27 to April 9

The following information was provided by the Middletown Police public information officer. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Middletown Police report the following arrests: 

April 9
SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — At 6:15 p.m., police were notified of a fight on Main and Green streets in which Jason M. Hill, 43, of Bow Lane, was yelling at another man with his fists clenched, according to the report. He threatened to beat up the man who told officers he was trying to stop Hil from harassing a woman. The report says the woman declined to talk to police.

FIVE COUNTS FIRST-DEGREE AND ONE COUNT SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 2 p.m., Jill T. Lamarr, 50, of Warwick Street  was found by police walking near Los Primos market on Main Street with six outstanding warrants from Middletown, Berlin and Plainville police.

April 7
FAILURE TO RESPOND — Robert Scott, 41, of Woodbury Circle was found with an outstanding warrant for possession of less than a half-ounces of marijuana.

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — Brendan Spada, 23, of Margarite Road was picked up on an outstanding warrant.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 11:26 a.m., Joshua Ramos, 30, of Oak Street was driving a car on Saybrook Road and, while an officer watched, swerved abruptly to the right almost hitting  a telephone poll, according to the report. Ramos told police he tried to pick his wallet off the floor.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 11:33 p.m., Astaria S. Smith, 23, of Imlay Street, East Hartford, was driving a Honda Accord on South Main at Loveland Street with a damaged passenger side and tire, according to the report. Police say the car matched the description of one involved in an accident earlier that had evaded the scene. Turns out it wasn't the car involved in the accident, police say.

April 4
THIRD-DEGREE CRIMINAL TRESPASS — At 6:50 p.m., Shawn A. Jones, 33, of LaBella Circle was at the Russell Library on Broad Street while intoxicated when staff called police saying he refused to leave. The report says he was on the second floor and other patrons encouraged him to oblige but he refused. The library security officers said Jones was asked several times to leave. He was sent to Middlesex Hospital for detoxification.

FIFTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 6:05 a.m., Wanda Lewis, 45, of Green Street turned herself in on an outstanding warrant.

INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, ILLEGAL OPERATION UNDER SUSPENSION — At 10:10 p.m., Derek Clement, 29, of Russell Street was driving a Kia Spectra on Church Street near Pine.

April 3
DISORDERLY CONDUCT, INTERFERING WITH EMERGENCY CALL, THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT — Said U. Orozco, 26, of East Robbins Avenue, Newington, was at a home on Rose Circle during a domestic dispute when his ex-wife said he assaulted her, according to the report. A canine tracked him unsuccessfully; later he called from Cromwell Stop & Shop and came to headquarters and turned himself in. Middletown police say a Rockfall man was arrested last week after driving a truck onto a sidewalk and through a city sign. 

April 2
OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED, INSURANCE FAILS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS — At 10:59 p.m., Shalli Francis, 37, of South Main Street was driving a Nissan Altima on Long Lane and Wadsworth Road. The report says she didn't know her license was suspended.

March 30
OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 11:10 a.m., Alex Washington, 39, of Summer Hill Road was at Main and Grand streets.

March 29
INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, TINTED WINDOWS — At 5:30 p.m., Rarashie Watson, 36, of Maple Place was driving a Jeep Cherokee at Union Street with illegally tinted windows. The report says the car smelled like marijuana and Watson said he had dropped off his friends.

FAILURE TO DISPLAY PLATES, OPERATE WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED, TINTED WINDOWS — At 9:08 p.m., Jesus M. Otway, 24, of Pearl Street was driving a Saab 900 on Saybrook Road without a front license place. 

March 27
OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE AND WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED, IMPROPER USE MARKER PLACE — At 3:43 p.m.  Ernesto Villanueva of Village Lane, Meriden, was driving a Honda Accord on Washington Street by Park Place.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — Aaron R. Cappello, 19, of Dewey Street was at the Dattco Bus terminal on Tuttle Road, where there was a minor motor vehicle accident while he was baking out, according to the report. Cappello, a Napa Auto Parts employee, hit an unoccupied Ford Fusion bus while out on deliveries. Tyler Rogers, 25, of 8 Lorraine Terrace, was charged with operating under the influence, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failure to renew registration, failure to drive in the proper lane and evading responsibility. At 9:10 p.m. on March 27, according to police, Rogers was seen driving a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck without its headlights on along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Way in Middletown. When he attempted to turn right onto deKoven Drive, Rogers drove onto the sidewalk and hit a Middletown city sign, smashing it into several pieces, a report says. He continued driving for a quarter mile before pulling over, according to the report. Police say Rogers admitted to drinking a beer and was stumbling but refused to perform field sobriety tests. During a search of the vehicle police confiscated a black hunting knife from the center console.
