Middletown Arrests: July 31 to Aug. 6

The following information was provided by the Middletown Police Department's public information officer. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT — On Aug. 6 at 3:01 a.m., Brett Clifford Banks, 33, of Town Ridge Drive allegedly assaulted someone at a home on his street. The report says police were told he was intoxicated and possibly in possession of a firearm. The female complainant said she had lived with Banks for six months but has been staying for the last month with her boyfriend in Berlin. At 2 a.m., the report says, the woman and her boyfriend went to her apartment on Town Ridge and were confronted by Banks about delinquent bills. A verbal argument lasted for an hour, when the male confronted Banks, telling him to drop the issue, police say; when Banks punched him in the face and left. The victim, police say, "appeared disorientated and intoxicated," but admitted he had confronted him but didn't touch him. He smelled of alcohol, the report details.

OPERATION WITHOUT MINIMUM INSURANCE — On Aug. 5 at 12:10 p.m., Kelly A. Nowotynski, 26, of Grove Street was driving a Honda Accord on Pearl Street and turned onto Grand without signaling, the report says. The report says the plate was registered to a Nissan Maxima.

INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED — On Aug. 5 at 6:57 p.m., Kyle R. Youmans, 25, of Lorraine Terrace was driving a Ford Explorer without a front license on Union Street. Police stopped the car just north of the Arrigoni Bridge, the report says, and Youmans told them it was his girlfriend's car; they live and have children together and "often share each other's vehicles," the report says.

OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, UNREASONABLE SPEED,
FAILURE TO RENEW REGISTRATION, DRINKING WHILE DRIVING — On Aug. 4, Mike McLean, 31, of Grand Street was driving a Nissan Maxima on Main Street Extension with, police say, an open Heineken beer bottle near his feet. The report says he did not register as intoxicated and admitted to drinking the beer because he had issues at home.

OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE — On Aug. 4, Donald P. Keathley, 71, of Oxford Drive, Middlefield, was driving on South Main Street with a cracked front windshield with a plate belonging to another car, the report says.

PUBLIC DISTURBANCE, SECOND-DEGREE CRIMINAL TRESPASS — On Aug. 4, police were called to Spear Park on Main and William Street on the report of an intoxicated man, Terrence Michael Nelson, 54, of no fixed address, yelling at a young child enjoying the park with his/her family, the report says.
OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED, IMPROPER PARKING — On Aug. 1 at 1:22 p.m., police saw a car parked in the center of Ferry Street near Main blocking the entire street. Troy Freeman, 20, of Woodbury Circle got into the car and when police stopped him, the report says, he was unaware his license was suspended. His license was confiscated.
OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED — On Aug. 4 at 3:15 p.m., Yamil E. Guadalupe, 34, of Santangelo Circle was seen by police driving on Washington Street speeding. The report says he was given a warning for tinted windows.

OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE AND WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED, IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM — On Aug. 1 at 8:49 p.m., Brittany J. Campbell-Haas, 22, of Arbutus Street was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy from the Sal's package store lot and, police say, she had no front license plate. Campbell-Haas told the officer she just bought the car that day and didn't know her license was suspended, the report says. The plates, police say, were registered to a 1997 Legacy.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED — On July 31 at 2:19 p.m., Michael J. Foley, 24, of Grist Mill Lane, Cobalt, was driving a Toyota Camry on Main Street with a cracked windshield, the report says, with a police cruiser behind; stopped and signaled to take a left turn but stayed still for several minutes. Police say Foley then took a right into a parking space without signaling and when stopped didn't know his license was suspended.
