Middletown Arrests: July 9-22

The following police reports are obtained directly from the Middletown Police public information officer and inclusion on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

Middletown and Newington Police report the following incidents:

July 22

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 4 a.m., police brought Michael Aaron, 22, of Chamberlain Road to a Continuum of Care group home on Lincoln Street, left, and were summoned back moments later for an assault. The report says a woman said she Aaron streamed at her because he was not allowed to use the phone and then punched her in the face several times.

July 20

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 3:19 a.m., Brian McInerney, 27, of Russell Street was at a home on Russell Street where police were called about a domestic disturbance. The report says he lived there with his eight-month girlfriend, who told police at 2:30 a.m., he came into the bedroom drunk and began yelling. McInerney pulled the covers off her and pulled her by the legs out of bed, police say, they pushed each other and she threw his keys out the window so he packed his belongings and left.

July 19

TWO COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 8:30 p.m., Wesley A. Jackson, 23, of West Street came into Middletown Police headquarters for an interview about a larceny case and was found with two active warrants.

SECOND-DEGREE LARCENY, CONSPIRACY DISCUSSION, ATTEMPT TO COMMIT CRIME — At 11:30 a.m., a 63-year-old woman told police her checks had been stolen and her Seasons Federal Credit Union bank account emptied, according to the report. A acquaintance, police say, Alex M. Smith, 21, of South Main Street and Jovohn M. Hunter, 25, of Mill Street had filled out a check for $1,200 and cashed it on July 16. According to the report, at 3 p.m. on July 19, the bank called to say Hunter was there trying to cash another check, again for $1,200. Smith told police he gave the check to Hunter and was given a portion of the funds. Hunter was charged with above and Smith with second-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft, third-degree forgery, attempt to commit crime and conspiracy discussion.

July 18

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 12:41 p.m., John J. Erb, 66, of Newfield Street was at an apartment on Newfield Street with his live-in girlfriend of five years and they argued over rent money. The report says she owed Erb $150 but had paid him $30 and when she told him that he told her to get out of the home and threatened to kill her. Erb told officers she owed the full $150 and hadn't paid her half of the bills. The report says when the officer asked if he was really going to kill his girlfriend over $150, he "said he wouldn't actually kill her." At 2 p.m., the woman called police to say Erb had called her cell phone after a family conditions of release had been issued. Police heard a message on her voice mail in Erb's voice saying she needed to find somewhere else to stay as soon as possible. The report says when police arrested Erb a second time, he said, "but did you listen to the voicemail? I was apologizing!"

July 15

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 5:59 p.m., Crystal L. Yeske, 29, of Pasco Hill Road, Cromwell, was at Bob's Stores on East Main Street and took six shirts costing $20.99 each and four shirts costing $27.99 each in her handbag and leave the story, according to the report. Yeske, who in total shoplifted $163.72, told police she had never done so before and had no intention of stealing the items. Police say her purse was nearly completely empty otherwise, containing just her car keys. A similar handbag with her personal items were found in her car parked in the lot outside, police say.

July 14

RISK OF INJURY TO CHILD, THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT — At 8:40 p.m., Tashiemia Dempsey, 30, of New Britain, turned herself in on an outstanding warrant. 

July 13

FAILURE TO CARRY CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE, FAILURE TO KEEP PLATES READABLE, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 11:15 p.m., Carlton M. Bates, 27, of Cooley Avenue was driving and Infinity G35 at Norfolk and South Main Street with a "severely damaged" license plate. The report says the car was his friend's.

July 12

POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO SELL, NON-STUDENT POSSESSING DRUGS AND DISTRIBUTION OF PARAPHERNALIA NEAR SCHOOL, POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO SELL — At 8:55 p.m., Jaquan L. Collins, 18, of Conard Road was inside a Pontiac Grand Am in Metro Plaza. The report says Collins told police he had just bought 26.6 grams of marijuana from a Meriden man for $325 two hours before. The report says he told police he sells some of the pot but smokes most of it and a search revealed a digital scale and packaging. He was charged with the above and Germaine J. Burgess, 33 of College Street, whose car it was was found with two outstanding warrants for failure to respond and second-degree failure to appear. 

POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO SELL, POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES — At 4:43 p.m., Bryon Bell, 27, of Prospect Street was seen by police trying to sell drugs near the Russell Library on Broad Street. A search revealed a discarded package of 4.5 grams of marijuana in the bushes, the report says. His record includes 10 previous arrests for larceny, burglary, disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer. 

July 11

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 4:39 p.m., Newington Police arrested Brandon Buchanan, 20, of Mile Lane on the Berlin Turnpike. 

July 9

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 8:31 p.m., police were called to Bob's Stores on East Main Street about Nadine Torres, 31, of Ferry Street who took four items and placed them under a basket in her shopping car. The report says she didn't pay for the items and the total value was $72.99. Torres struggled with police to return to the story, the report indicates, and told the officer she had paid for some items but forgot the ones under the basket, that she had been arrested for shoplifting in the past and couldn't get arrested again or she'd go to jail.
