Middletown Arrests: Jan. 10-13

Middletown Police and Connecticut State Police, Westbrook, report the following arrests:

Jan. 13 

FIRST- AND SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 8 a.m., Brittany D. Tomling, 25, of Huntington Street, New Haven, turned herself in on an outstanding warrant from Old Saybrook Police and one from Yale University in New Haven.

SECOND-DEGREE HARASSMENT — At 1:45 p.m., Donna Hart, 54, of Laring Court turned herself in on an outstanding warrant.

PAROLEE ESCAPED — At 5:15 a.m., , were called to The Connection House, a halfway house on Liberty Street, on the report that inmate Darryl James, 44, didn't return after being allowed work leave, the report says. He was deemed an escapee and his parole officer notified, say police, who are still investigating the incident.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — At 12:58 a.m., police were called to a home on South Main Street by a woman who thought her sister, Tamika S. Privott, 37, of Hillside Avenue, was in a domestic dispute. The report says Privott called her  sister throughout the day and night saying her husband, Edgar Taylor Jr., 54, of South Main Street, was abusive and she wanted to be picked up. Police arrived at the apartment and found the husband, who claimed Privott wasn't there, but they found her hiding in a bedroom closet, the report indicates. Taylor said Privott came by at 1 p.m. because she had nowhere to stay and later told police she had been staying there for a month. Residents of the apartment, police say, confirmed that  Taylor is verbally and physically abusive toward her and earlier had dragged her by the hood of her shirt and "flung" her out the door and beat her in the stairwell. Privott said she had been trying since 10 a.m. to call her sister and brother for a ride to leave Taylor, left the house at 5 p.m. to go to her stepfather's house, but couldn't because Taylor was following her. Later that night, he took her out in the car, telling her the police were coming, then at midnight, dragged her out of the apartment again, drove around for a while then came back to the apartment, and hid in the closet after Taylor frightened her. Taylor admitted they both had been drinking the entire day, the report says. Both were arrested for the above; Taylor additionally for two counts of disorderly conduct.

Jan. 10

On Jan. 10 at 1:58 a.m., Charlene F. Graziano, 42, of East Street was driving a Saturn Vue on East Street at a high rate of speed, when an officer saw the car veering over the double-yellow center road lines. The report says she continued on to her driveway, pulled into the garage and shut the door. Moments later, a woman  opened the front door and stepped outside, saying her daughter was driving the black sports utility vehicle. Police say she refused to come outside and went into the bathroom and closed the door. Police handcuffed her when she exited, the report says, and all she would say repeatedly is, "what's the problem?" She smelled of alcohol and failed sobriety tests, the report indicates. She was charged with disobeying an officer's signal, operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive right.

SECOND-DEGREE HARASSMENT, DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 5:32 p.m., police were called to a home on High Street by the downstairs neighbor of Tracy Woods, 49, of High Street, who said she'd left multiple harassing messages on her cell phone, the report says. She said they had gotten along in the past but Woods accused the victim of slapping one of her three daughters. Police say the messages said, "You don't know who you are dealing with, I know people from Higganum. They will bug your whole house," called her a liar, adding, "I will win, honesty always wins." Police say she sounded drunk and it was hard deciphering what she said. Wood told police she had made the calls. At 9:33 p.m., police were again called out after the victim said Woods was stomping on the floor; they left, then were called again at 11:11 p.m. about Woods banging on the door and stomping on the floor, calling her profanities, the report says, which officers heard.
