Middletown Arrests: Aug. 28 to Sept. 6

The following police reports are obtained directly from the Middletown Police public information officer and inclusion on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

Sept. 6

FAILURE TO OBEY CONTROL SIGNAL, DUI — At 12:44 a.m., Eliana T. Lapreziosa, 41, of East Main Street was driving a Nissan Murano on Main Street while talking on her cell phone, according to the report. She smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot and glassy eyes and admitted to drinking one beer and incorrectly recounted the alphabet, police say. She failed sobriety tests and her blood alcohol levels were .1988 and .2037, according to the report.

POSSESSION NARCOTICS, SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY, THREE COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 2:30 a.m., police were called to Silver Street about Michael A. Menegus, 26, of Johnson Street who was in an apartment and hit when officers looked for him. He had an outstanding warrant.

DUI, FAILURE TO HAVE LIGHTS LIT, POSSESSION NARCOTICS, NON-STUDENT POSSESSING DRUGS NEAR SCHOOL — At 2:31 a.m., James D. Reed, 49, of Hemlock Place was driving a Hyundai Sonata on Newfield Street near LaRosa Lane and smelled of alcohol, the report indicates. An officer saw an empty glass beer bottle in his car and his eyes were glossy and speech slurred, police say. He admitted to getting a DUI five years before and failed a sobriety test. Inside the car, the officer saw a baggie with white residue (.3 grams of crack cocaine), and his blood alcohol levels registered .1226 and .1230, according to the report.

Sept. 5

FAILURE TO RESPOND — At 4 a.m., Antonio K. Likely, 21, of Long Lane turned himself in on an outstanding warrant for creating a public disturbance.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 6:20 a.m., Heidi Hopkins, 32, of Grand Street hit her live-in boyfriend of one month Dalton R. Barnes, 42, of Grand Street with a stick, according to the report, after an overnight fight over money in her wallet after which he threw her out. Hopkins said Barnes hit her in the face, injuring her head and face and causing a lump under her eye, police say. Both were charged with the above and Barnes additionally for third-degree assault.

TWO COUNTS FIRST- AND TWO COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 8 a.m., Germaine J. Burgess, 33, of College Street turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

DUI, FAILURE TO HAVE TAIL LAMPS — At 1:58 p.m., Daniel Miller, 23, of Liberty Street was driving a Subaru Impreza at High and Loveland streets when an officer stopped him and noticed his breath smelled of alcohol and he had bloodshot and glossy eyes and slurred speech, according to the report.  He failed a sobriety test and told police he had taken a "bong" hit a few minutes before driving. His blood-alcohol level was .0756.

FAILURE TO RESPOND — At 1:58 a.m., Andre Rodriguez, 25, of no certain address was a passenger in a car stopped on High Street and found with an outstanding warrant from Hartford Police.

Aug. 28

SECOND OFFENSE ILLEGAL OPERATION UNDER INFLUENCE, UNSAFE MOVEMENT, DRIVING WRONG WAY ON ONE-WAY STREET — At 8:15 p.m., Matthew P. Courtois, 27, of Magnolia Drive, Enfield, was at Middlesex Hospital on Crescent Street after being stopped by a Connecticut State Trooper, according to the report, for driving a Chevrolet S10 pickup on Main Street, spinning his tires and revving his engine. The trooper said Courtois was intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol, then failed sobriety tests, with a blood alcohol level of .1997 and .1890. He was arrested for DUI on Oct. 19, 2009, police say.
