Middletown Arrests: Feb. 11-22

The following information was provided by the Middletown Police public information officer. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER, SECOND-DEGREE RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT — At 1:51 a.m., Yvette Dempsey, 34, of Town Brooke was arguing with her ex-boyfriend at East Main Street and Cooley Avenue after hitting his Infinity and driving away, the report says. The victim was enjoying a night out at a bar when Dempsey entered, police say, and refused to leave after the owner asked her to, so got into his car. The report says Dempsey, driving her Nissan Maxima, crashed into his car, heavily damaging his rear fender and bumper. Police found her driving on Route 9 near Exit 16 with front-end damage to her car, the report indicates. Dempsey told officers she went to Michael's bar, saw her ex, knowing their was a protective order but stayed because, "they are adults and can handle their differences." She has two pending domestic violence cases, police say, in Meriden and Middletown. Police locked up the $2,300 in $100 bills she had on her in a locker for safekeeping, the report indicates.

RISK OF INJURY TO A CHILD, THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT — At 11:30 a.m., Brian R. Thompson, 30, of South Main Street turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

FAILURE TO WEAR SAFETY BELT, FAILURE TO NOTIFY OF CHANGE IN REGISTRANT'S ADDRESS, INSURANCE COVERAGE FALSE MINIMUM, FAILURE TO NOTIFY MOTOR VEHICLES OF ADDRESS CHANGE — At 12:40 a.m., Rubin D. Walton, 31, of Elizabeth Lane was driving a Geo Prism on South Main Street without a seatbelt. According to the police report, Walton pulled the car over abruptly and stopped before the police officer activated his cruiser lights. His license had a Stamford address and his registration a Norwalk address; the report says Walton told police he moved to Middletown eight months prior from North Carolina. While he was waiting for a ride home, police say, Walton said, "I'm not paying any money to the court. The charges are [expletive], you'll see. You're out here harassing innocent people." 

Feb. 11

SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — At 4:46 p.m., Albert Padilla, 48, of Burgundy Hill Lane argued with neighbors in his complex about which areas should be plowed of snow first. The report says Padilla threatened to bring his gun outside, which turned out to be a black Smith and Wesson air soft gun.
