Jini Barnum, whose body was recovered from a shallow grave in Glastonbury Sunday morning, was strangled to death, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
, when a local woman was walking her dog near Windham Road. The dog found the shallow grave containing Barnum, and the woman notified police.
On Tuesday a spokesman for the medical examiner’s office said that Barnum died of “traumatic asphyxiation,” otherwise known as suffocation, from “neck compression.” In essence, they said, she was strangled.
Barnum went missing on July 28 after an argument with her boyfriend, Anthony Garofalo, at their East Hampton home.
The Glastonbury and East Hampton Police Departments are cooperating in the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
