Man Leapt From Home to Escape Fire

Middletown fire officials battled a blaze at a home on Miner Street in the Westfield section of the city early this morning.

A man leapt from the second floor window of a house on Miner Street to escape a fire early Saturday in the Westfield section of Middletown, according to the Hartford Courant.

The blaze, which began some time after midnight, was knocked down in a half-hour, the Courant reports. Early indications are it began on the first floor, officials say.

The fire forced the man to jump to the grass below, where firefighters found him suffering from a broken ankle. He was brought to the hospital for treatment, the Courant says. Investigators are on scene.

The city assessor's database says the home was built in 1776 and is owned by
Jeff and Kathy Mohnkern of New Orleans.
