Scott Hatje is facing burglary, larceny and drug charges

A Wethersfield man is facing burglary, drug and assault charges after police spotted him jumping out of the second floor window of a home and trying to run away.

Police got a call from a concerned neighbor notifying them of a suspicious-looking man walking around the back of a home at 25 Westmont Dr. at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. They found a red Buick LeSabre parked just south of the home, boxed it in with their patrol cars, then walked to the house. Fresh footprints led them to a broken window in the back of the house.

A chase through the snow ensued. Despite several commands by the officers to stop, Hatje continued running.

Police caught up to Hatje in the yard of a home on Military Road and, after a brief struggle, subdued him. A search of Hatje while in custody turned up several pieces of jewelry that were taken from the residence. Police also found four packets of heroin on Hatje, who told them he is a heroin addict

One officer and Hatje were taken to Middlesex Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the foot chase. Both were released.

Hatje was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, interfering with a police officer, assault on a police officer, possession of heroin and possession of heroin within 1,500 feet of a school.
