Firefighters to Rescue! City's Festive Adopt-A-Family Parade Helps Needy

For 18 years, the Middletown, South Fire District and Westfield Fire Department personnel join Middletown Police officers for a giant Christmas act of charity during the holiday season.

You may see an unusual number of fire trucks around town Saturday evening and they'll be blaring their sirens and lit up with festive Christmas decorations.

That's because tonight is the Middletown, South Fire District and Westfield Fire Departments Adopt-A-Family parade. For 18 years, firefighters and Middletown Police officers join together to deliver surprise gifts to families in need.

Throughout the year, emergency responders raise funds to pay for holiday gifts and much needed household items for families who are down on their luck or have experienced a recent loss that makes furnishing their homes with necessities and presents for the children difficult.
