Drunk Man Walks in Street, Threatens to Jump off Bridge

Middletown Police say a 29-year-old city man who was found walking in the middle of West Street on New Year's Eve fled to the bridge near Aldi's and CVS.

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER, DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Jan. 5 police served Bryon Bell, 26, of Boston Road with a warrant.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Jan. 4 at 9:23 a.m., Cynthia McKnight, 49, of Hillside Avenue was at Middlesex Hospital and reportedly punched an emergency room nurse in the arm. McKnight, under a physician emergency committal at the hospital, approached the nurse, the report says, asked for an item and when asked to return to her room, said, “Thanks for nothing,” and slugged the nurse. McKnight admitted to punching the nurse with, “I had to do what I had to do.”

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — On Jan. 3 at 1:53 p.m., Ryan J. Williams, 22, of Butternut Street was at a St. John Street disturbance with his on-again, off-again girlfriend after he refused to buy her cigarettes. He had been out of Superior Court on a pending case, police say, between 1 and 2 p.m. and had visited her.

THIRD-DEGREE BURGLARY, SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY, ATTEMPT TO COMMIT CRIME — On Jan. 1, Gilberto Quintanal, 19, of Grove Street was arrested at 167 Johnson Street after witnesses said he and another person tried to break into locked cars and entered one of the buildings. Quintanal said he was trying to find loose change in the cars and found the building was used for utilities and had nothing of value.

TWO COUNTS VIOLATION OF PROBATION — On Dec. 31 at 12:30 p.m., Owen A. Miner, 29, of Ingham Hill, Old Saybrook, turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Dec. 31, Ahmed Kakay, 29, of Plaza Drive was blocking traffic in the area of Washington and West Street while intoxicated. Several pedestrians told officers, “there he is. He is going to be hit by a car.” He was staggering in the middle of West Street with cars honking their horns. When approached, he ran across the bridge that connects Aldi’s and CVS, police say. He climbed a chain-link fence, stood, about to jump 30 feet off the bridge, police tackled him and he began swearing at and threatening them. He was sent to Middlesex Hospital.

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, FAILURE TO DRIVE AT REASONABLE DISTANCE, POSSESSION MARIJUANA — On Dec. 25 at 12:18 a.m., Dwayne Hall Jr. 38, of Overlook Avenue was in a car accident on Hubbard Street and had left the scene in a Lincoln Towncar. He was found on Stoneycrest Drive with the car that had damage consistent with the crash. Officers repeatedly asked him to take his hands from his pockets and wouldn’t. They found a baggie with marijuana inside, 1.6 ounces.

INTERFERING WITH OFFICER — On Dec. 22 at 4:33 p.m., Joseph Bartosiak, 49, of Main Street was at the 500 block of Main Street on the report of a fight. He was inside and known to police as a convicted felon with a long SPRC and known crack user. Police say he’s let drug dealers and users distribute and use narcotics in his apartment. That building is the sight of frequent 911 calls from narcotics to assaults. Bartosiak and the other person were separated by police; Bartosiak was searched and fought a pat-down. One on the ground he refused to comply so police Tased him.

IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, INSURANCE FAILS MINIMUM, OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE — On Dec. 15 at 7:46 a.m., Richard Santiago, 29, of Barbara Road was driving a Nissan Altima on Union Street. Santiago told police the plate didn’t belong on the car and it was not insured. He put the plate on, the report says, because he didn’t have money for taxes to register it.
