Police: Agitated Cromwell Man Urinates in Cell

Middletown Police report the following arrests:

POSSESSION NARCOTICS, NON-STUDENT DRUGS NEAR SCHOOL, DISTRIBUTION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, THIRD-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, FAILURE TO COMPLY FINGERPRINTS, POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO SELL, VIOLATION OF PROBATION — On Aug. 31 at 6 p.m., Darryl A. James, 43, of Skyview Drive, Cromwell, was at Aresco’s Market, identified by street crime units. He was arrested for possession of crack cocaine June 16 worth $510. He had an outstanding warrant. A search revealed an off-white rock in his gym shorts (.5 grams) worth $50. While being processed, James urinated in his cell and refused to be fingerprinted. Because he was also agitated, he was placed in a padded cell.

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — On Aug. 31 at 3:39 p.m. at Stop & Shop on East Main Street, police were called for a shoplifter, Felicia Diaz, 21, of Rapallo Avenue, who concealed a large quantity of candy concealed in purse valued at $68.85.

ASSAULT PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER, ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY, INTERFERINT WITH OFFICER, BREACH OF PEACE, THIRD-DEGREE AND SECOND-DEGREE ASSAULT, RISK OF INJURY, INTERFERING WITH EMERGENCY CALL — On Aug. 31 at 10:44 a.m., Darrell Bell, 26, of Ross Road, Middlefield, was on High Street during a domestic assault. He left the scene and police found him on Spring Street sweating profusely; he said it was from being chased by a pit bull. He said he didn’t have ID and gave a false name. After handcuffs were removed from him, he swung at the officer, hitting his thumb and struck him across the chest and ran. A K-9 track led to Columbus Avenue and Mazzotta Place. He was chased through Prospect and onto the railroad tracks. He was found near Stowe Avenue. He smelled of marijuana and police found a green roach on the ground next to him. “I still got a little weed on me,” he admitted, (.7 grams). The witness said he woke up angry arguing with his grandmother over not drop off cigarettes. She accused him of buying her a fake engagement ring. She said he grabbed her hair and threw her around. The witness, police say, is pregnant by him and the incident took place near a 3-, 15- and 17-year-old children. He allegedly broke her cell phone as she tried to call 911, then his her in the face with his fist and grabbed her by the hair.
