Cops: Speeding Corvette Driver Blamed Crash on Brakes

Middletown Police say a 68-year-old city man who rear-ended a Ford truck told them he just happened to be driving to get his brakes repaired.

INTERFERING WITH EMERGENCY CALL, THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT, FIRST-DEGREE UNLAWFUL RESTRAINT — On April 10 at 7:15 p.m., Bobby Merrimarahajara, 21, of Baer Street was seen by police at Hunting Hill Avenue and Russell Street with an outstanding warrant from a domestic disturbance March 16.

RECKLESS DRIVING LESS THAN 85 MPH, TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS — On April 2 at 12:55 p.m., Douglas F. Mazzotta, 68, of Magnolia Place was involved in a car crash on Newfield Street while driving a 1978 Chevrolet Corvette. Police say Mazzotta rear-ended a Ford F350, telling them his brakes “did not hold” while traveling 35 mph. He then said his brakes were defective and he was driving to an auto garage to have them fixed, the report says. Witnesses reported his Corvette was driving 60 to 100 miles per hour.
