Police Captain to be Buried in Moodus on Thursday

New Britain Police Captain Matthew Tuttle, who police say took his life Saturday after being arrested for DUI, will be laid to rest in St. Bridget of Kildare Church

UPDATE: New Britain Police Capt. Matthew Tuttle, who police say took his own life Saturday afternoon at his home in Middletown, will be buried Thursday at St. Bridget of Kildare Church in the Moodus section of East Haddam, the Hartford Courant is reporting.

Earlier version: Middletown Police are investigating the "untimely death" of New Britain Police captain, Matthew Tuttle, 55, after friends allegedly found him dead Saturday afternoon.

The Bristol Press is reporting Tuttle committed suicide 13 hours after being charged with drunken driving in Berlin.

A 26-year, decorated officer, Tuttle was arrested early Saturday after a crash on Route 9 in Berlin, while off-duty. He allegedly left the scene and was located in Middletown. He was charged with DUI, evading responsibility and driving in the wrong lane.
