Cops: Man Who Robbed 77-Year-Old at Stop & Shop Says Heroin Made Him do it

Hebron man faces larceny, robbery and assault charges after grabbing cash from woman outside Middletown grocery store.

A 21-year-old Hebron man, who allegedly told Middletown Police he is a heroin addict, is in custody after police say he stole cash from a 77-year-old woman outside Stop & Shop Thursday.

David St. Amand faces sixth-degree larceny, third-degree robbery and assault on a victim over age 60. At 2:30 p.m., he reportedly tried to return items that he didn't purchase for cash and when asked to leave the store, the arrest report says, grabbed cash from an elderly woman's hand, injuring it, and ran off.

A witness called police, saying she saw St. Amand walking down the road.

St. Amand allegedly told police he was a heroin addict, which prompted him to return the items and rob the woman.
