Cops: Man Who Rear-Ended Car Left Scene and Clue — License Plate

Middletown Police say a Cromwell man who rear-ended a car on Route 9 drove away because he was operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and was easily traced by an item left on the roadway.

A 36-year-old Cromwell man who left the scene of an accident he caused on Route 9 in Middletown was easily traced by officers who say his license plate was left behind on the highway.

On Aug. 30 at 4:01 p.m., Eric J. Carrano of Main Street, Cromwell, was involved in an accident on Route 9 North, rear-ending the car in front of him, according to the report, then leaving the scene.

Police say his license plate was lying on the roadway and when found at home, Carrano said he left because his car was not insured or registered.

He was sent to Middlesex Hospital for treatment then arrested for operating an unregistered vehicle, insurance coverage fails minimum, evading responsibility and failure to drive at a reasonable distance.
