Cops: Man Found with Crack Tasered After Fleeing in Dramatic Foot Chase

Middletown Police says officers who chased the suspect in heavy traffic witnessed Darryl Drake getting caught on a cable, which spun him around 360 degrees.

A 46-year-old city man is facing serious drug dealing charges after Middletown Police say he was discovered with more than 7 grams of crack cocaine in his car.

On Oct. 19, Darryl Drake, 46, of Bacon Avenue was driving on Saybrook Road without headlights, according to the police report. An officer driving behind activated his lights and the driver pulled into the Dollar Tree lot. Police reportedly could see him rummaging through the center compartment.

Drake admitted, the report says, to being arrested in the past for possession, and police said he stuttered and avoided eye contact. A search revealed a balled-up napkin with 7.2 grams of crack cocaine packed for sale inside.

As officers tried to handcuff him, the arrest report details, Drake fled south on Saybrook Road with police chasing in heavy traffic when a cable near Frisbie Street snagged Drake’s body and spun him around 360 degrees. Officers grabbed him but he got up again, then fell in the mud.

The report says police found it necessary to hit Drake with a flashlight on his arm, then Taser him in the back. Drake had $561 in cash in his pocket.

He was charged with second-degree possession of narcotics, and with intent to sell, and interfering with an officer.
