Cops: Man Exits CVS With $80 Worth of Drinks Without Paying

Middletown Police activity reports through April 24

Middletown Police report the following activity:

SECOND-DEGREE BURGLARY, SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — On April 25, Daniel A. Varela, 26, of Eastern Drive, was reported to have committed a burglary at his sister’s house. She said he entered the house and stole an iPod touch worth $199. He was found on Main Street with the object. He admitted to entering the house through an open window. He said he had permission to use it from his nephew. He was given a May 2 court date.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On April 24, James Rankins, 55, of South Main Street was arrested after a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, who told police he had assaulted her but no signs were present, although a flower pot was knocked to the floor. He was given an April 25 court date.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On April 24, Leslie Best 45, of South Main Street was arrested after a domestic dispute with her boyfriend. She told police her boyfriend had assaulted her but no signs were present, although a flower pot was knocked to the floor. She was given an April 25 court date.

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY, INTERFERING WITH AN OFFICER — On April 24, Vincent Cappello, 39, of Main Street, Portland, was seen by police exiting CVS on Main Street Extension carrying a basket full of Red Bull drinks and soda. When he saw police, Cappello began walking quickly away, put the basket down and ran. At the store, officers review the camera tape and saw Cappello leave the store without paying. He was found on Eastern Drive and admitted he’d stolen the drinks, worth $80.14. He was given a May 4 court date.

THREE COUNTS PROBATION VIOLATION, TWO COUNTS FIRST-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR, TWO COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FTA — On April 24, Eddy Morales, 38, of Queen Street, Southington, was brought in on an outstanding warrant. He was given a May 4 court date.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On April 23, Adam Wilczynski, 31, of Elizabeth Lane was at the scene of a call that an intoxicated person repeatedly called 911 and hung up. Police met Wilczynski and his father who had fought and the accused tried to hit his father after a verbal argument. The son grabbed his arm and threw him to the ground, causing a cut to his father’s left wrist. He was given an April 25 court date and send to Middlesex Hospital for detoxification.

THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT, DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On April 23, Craig S. Flannery, 40, of Pearl Street was at the scene of a domestic where the victim said she was pushed by her boyfriend into a door.

SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR, SECOND-DEGREE HARASSMENT — On April 21, Bernardo Zecua, 28, of Lombart Street, New Haven, turned himself into Middletown Police on three warrants. He was given an April 26 court date.

OPERATING UNREGISTERED MOTOR VEHICLE, MISUSE OF MARKER PLATE, OPERATING MOTOR VEHCILE WITHOUT INSURANCE — On April 9, Kristine Kulmacz, 44, of East Main Street was driving a Camry on Washington Street with a license plate listed as an Accord. She was given an April 25 court date.

OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE WITH SUSPENDED REGISTRATION — On April 8, Cheryl Rand, 46, of Middletown Avenue, East Hampton, was driving north on Main Street. She has an April 26 court date.
