Man Charged With Threatening to Kill Passersby at Bus Station

Middletown Police say he also threw money and marijuana on the sidewalk.

Middletown Police report the following arrests:

SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR, FAILURE TO REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDER — On Nov. 22 at 1:45 a.m., Gregory Bensen, 45, of Sherman Avenue, New Haven, was transported from New Britain Hospital after being found with two outstanding warrants.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT, POSSESSION LESS THAN HALF-OUNCE CANNABIS — On Nov. 21 at 10:50 a.m., Reginald Greene of LaBella Circle was causing a disturbance in front of Middletown Area Transit at 340 Main Street, screaming that he was going to kill everyone and making aggressive movements toward people walking by. When police arrived, he put his hands in his pockets and yelled, “Kill me! Just kill me!” and threw money and a bag with marijuana on the sidewalk (1.2 grams). He told police he could speak with God, wanted the police to kill him and wanted to kill everyone oppressing him. He said he was supposed to be on medication for a physiological disorder but would not say what.

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — On Nov 20 at 11 a.m., Jonathan S. Swanson, 44, of Timer Hill Road, Cromwell, was at Bobs on East Main Street. Security said he had concealed two shirts and a belt inside his jacket and left the store. It was valued at $87.73. He told police he was sorry, had been laid off and was struggling financially and was going to wear the clothes to his grandmother’s funeral.

RECKLESS DRIVING, FAILURE TO NOTIFY MOTOR VEHICLES OF CHANGE OF ADDRESS — On Nov. 20, police were called to Summer Hill Road that Pietro Benzi, 26, of Summer Hill Road had parked his Dodge pickup in the visitor’s spot of a condo. The complaintant said he looked out the window and saw tires spinning and smoke as the truck sped into the lot, then spun around several times “burning its tires,” revving his engine with kids around. The witness saw Benzi peel an orange tow-away sticker off his Dodge and put it on his car. He told the witness, “Go ahead call the cops. I know all of them and they won’t do anything.” He admitted to police he had done that but it was stupid. Benzi said he was upset because he and his wife have three cars and the condo complex only issues one spot per unit.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED, FAILURE TO KEEP PLATES VISIBLE — On Nov. 20, Romain A. Sewell, 36, of Main Street, Portland, was driving on Newfield Street.

INSURANCE FAILS MINIMUM, FAILURE TO RENEW REGISTRATION — On Nov. 16, Lisa Marie Tamayo, 29, of Magnolia Hills Court, Cromwell, was driving on South Main Street in a Chevrolet Cavalier.
