Cops: Man Admits to 10-Bag-A-Day Heroin Habit

An unlit license plate led to the arrest of a Haddam man and Killingworth man in Middletown.

Two 23-year-olds are facing drug-related charges after Middletown Police say they were found with heroin and needles.

On Oct. 14, police saw Bryan A. Gallant, 23, of Quarry Hill Road, Haddam, driving a Ford Escape on East Main Street without an illuminated rear license plate. Once stopped, the arrest report says, the officers saw he had pinpoint pupils and a sweaty brow.

Police then saw a crack pipe fall from Gallant's sweatshirt and hit the officer’s foot. Gallant said, “that’s not mine, I swear, that was there before.” When an insulin needle fell from his sweatshirt, Gallant denied it was his.

The passenger, Devin Gregoli, 23, of Route 81, Killingworth, was searched by a police canine, the report says, and was found with a pipe, five light blue wax bags of heroin (weighing 1.1 grams in total). He said he was a heroin user who is “trying to get better.” Gregoli said at the height of his addiction, he was consuming 10 bags of heroin a day.

Also in the car were additional wax bags marked with the logo of a star with feet and a smiley face, a broken pipe and an insulin needle.
