City Man Fires Gun After Dispute at Shish Lounge in West Hartford

Michal Szypt, 30, who admitted taking the shot, was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Three men, including one from Middletown, are facing charges after an alleged shooting took place in the parking lot across from Shish Lounge on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford on Sunday morning, police said.

According to police, Michal Szpyt, 30, of Middletown, got into a dispute with Michal Osowiecki, 20, and Mariusz Majewski, 23, of New Britain, inside Shish Lounge.

After the three men were kicked out of Shish, the dispute continued across the street in the parking lot behind 901 Farmington Ave.

Szpyt, according to police, pulled a 9 mm handgun, for which had had a permit, and fired a shot. He had also been kicked during the dispute, though it is unclear whether that happened before or after the shot was fired.

An officer on patrol near the New Children’s Museum heard the shot and proceeded to the parking lot, where he located the three men.

Szypt, who admitted taking the shot, was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Osowiecki was charged with second-degree threatening and breach of peace, while Majewski was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

Police are still are investigating the club because Osowiecki was under age.
