ATV Rider Injured in Middletown Woods

Emergency workers located the victim off Reservoir Road by pinpointing her cell phone's GPS coordinates.

A female all-terrain vehicle driver was hospitalized Tuesday after an accident deep in the woods off Reservoir Road in Middletown.

At 4:20 p.m., South Fire District persponnel responded to a remote area of the city for a quad accident. Using GPS coordinates from the victim's cell phone and the help of fellow quad riders, emergency workers were able to locate the victim, according to firefighters.

Due to rough terrain, firefighters carried the injured victim in a stokes basket for 1.5 miles prior to transferring her into a pickup truck for removal from the woods.

The victim was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is investigating the accident.
