Accused Wesleyan Voyeur Granted Accelerated Rehab

Michael T. McKenna, 30, of West Hartford was arrested Feb. 17 after campus security said a student had seen him videotaping her in the library bathroom.

The West Hartford man accused of taping a female Wesleyan University student in a library restroom has been granted accelerated rehabilitation, according to the Middletown Press.

Michael T. McKenna, 30, of Maplewood Avenue, West Hartford, was arrested Feb. 17 for third-degree criminal trespass, breach of peace and voyeur charges after police summoned to the university's Olin Library by campus security said a student had seen a man filming her with a camera while she used the restroom, according to the report.

In March, McKenna appeared in Middletown Superior Court but had his case continued.

McKenna’s attorney, J.J. Maffeo, said McKenna has been in treatment since his arrest, and had even sought help before the run-in at Wesleyan, the Press reports.

The victim identified McKenna, who asked why he was being questioned, police say, and led them to his car. A silver Olympus digital camera was found in McKenna's Ford Explorer, police say, after he asked for leniency for cooperating. Fourteen videos were found on the camera, the report says, of females using the toilet.

He admitted to officers, the report says, that he uses these videos to share and view on his computer, "is not proud of his fetish, but cannot help it."

An investigation determined McKenna had also been asked to leave Dartmouth College after being discovered there as a non-student, police indicate.
