A gift idea that won't wilt with the roses!

Celebrate the everyday using common objects that you may already have. Find inspiration in my book, "A Mantel for All Seasons" by Pamela Hartz Miller

I find that Valentine's Day is a fun and easy holiday to decorate for. There are all sorts of heart-shaped objects to be found in all kinds of materials. Whether it is fabric, small heart-shaped marbles, candy boxes, candles, baskets or wreaths, pulling it all together can freshen up your space. Who doesn't love a shot of red or pink in the middle to winter?

To get this look, combine chunky red candles perched on upturned wine glasses, reproductions of old valentines or postcards, heart-shaped boxes and vintage handkerchiefs. Include a book of poetry and a scattering of heart-shaped marbles. Top it all off with a wreath.

  • Show off handmade valentines (think construction paper and paper doilies)
  • Save candy boxes from past years to display.
  • Clear glass vases of red or pink roses are a classic addition.
  • Heart inspired objects are easily found in paperweights, candlesticks, ceramic bowls and plates.

Find these ideas and more in my book, "A Mantel for All Seasons". Celebrate the everyday using common objects that you may already have. Choose a mantel, an entry table, a bookcase or just a shelf as a starting point and add objects that resonate with you.
