Two MxCC Students Awarded the Artists for World Peace Scholarship

Samyory Parilla of Meriden and Michaela Anderson of Deep River were each awarded a $100 scholarship from the Artists for World Peace Fund.

Artists for World Peace provides need-based scholarships and art supplies for Mercy, Middletown, and Xavier High School students and students attending Middlesex Community College. The Artists for World Peace Scholarship is open to students taking art, fine arts, music, theater, digital arts, multimedia and broadcast-cinema courses at MxCC. This fund allows students to purchase supplies, materials and kits to support their course activity.

Parilla, a business administration major, will use her scholarship to purchase art supplies for her drawing course. Parilla will graduate from MxCC at the end of the academic year. She hopes to transfer to Central Connecticut State University where she will major in business and minor in art.

“Michaela and Samyory are both very excited about receiving the scholarship, and we are thrilled to provide this opportunity through Artists for World Peace at MxCC,” said Professor Donna Bontatibus, chair of the humanities division.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in an art, multimedia, digital arts, music, theatre, graphic design, or broadcast-cinema course and must demonstrate a commitment to academic success with GPA of 2.0 or better. The scholarship will be available again for students taking courses in the spring semester.
