Chamber: Zoning Change is Good Business for Middletown

The Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce believes Middletown citizens will benefit from the Centerplan development on Washington Street through increased employment opportunities, increased tax revenues and enhanced public services.

Editor's Note: What follows are the statements made by Jeffrey Pugliese of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce at the Feb. 27 meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Chamber’s Executive Committee voted to support the text change at its February meeting.

Planning and Zoning:

Good Evening Chairman Pelletier and members of the Commission. My name is Jeff Pugliese and I am with the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce.  The Middlesex Chamber is a dynamic business organization with over 2,400 members that employ over 50,000 people.  Our organization is based here in Middletown and our address is 393 Main Street.

I appear before you this evening to offer the Chamber’s support for the Zoning Code Text Amendment to the Mixed-Use Zone, being brought forth by Acquisition Holdings, LLC.

The Chamber believes that this proposed Zoning Code Text Amendment promotes economic development in the City of Middletown, will help retain businesses that want to expand here and will attract new business activity to the city. The citizens of Middletown will benefit through increased employment opportunities, increased tax revenues and enhanced public services.

The Chamber’s Executive Committee, which is our organization’s top governing body, voted to support this Zoning Code Text Amendment at its February meeting and we urge the Planning and Zoning Commission to approve it.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide comment for the public record.

Jeff Pugliese, Middlesex County Chamber of Chamber
