Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters "Littles" Enjoy Activities Hosted By Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park

On a recent sun-saturated Saturday, Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park in Portland opened its gates to 212 "Bigs" (adult mentors) and "Littles" (children being mentored) from Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. This is the seventh consecutive year for the Brownstone-hosted event, called Mentoring-In-Motion.

"Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters does amazing things for kids in need throughout the state," said Sean Hayes, Brownstone's Chief Financial Officer. "We're glad we're in a position to help out groups that work so effectively and consistently to make our communities better places to live."

Thanks to Brownstone's generosity, many children and the adults who mentor them had their chance to take part in a dizzying array of activities in and around the centerpiece of the park, a Class-A freshwater quarry lake. There was cliff jumping, rock climbing, hiking, cliff climbing, snorkeling, wakeboarding, zip lining, kayaking, swimming and much more.

Little Sister Jenalys lives in Middletown, yet this was the first time she'd experienced the vast menu of wonders at Brownstone in neighboring Portland. As she flew down one of the facility's water slides, Jenalys was overheard yelling: "I'm having the time of my life!" Judging from that spontaneous outburst, the seven-year-old is very likely going to be a repeat visitor to the outdoor adventure park.

"We are so appreciative of the kindness of everybody at Brownstone," said Andy Fleischmann, President & CEO of Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. "Worthy of special mention is the generosity of owner/operator Sean Hayes, who deeply discounted admission fees for all 212 attendees. For the past seven years, Brownstone has been a great supporter of our mission to help children in need - and we are very grateful."
