Reader: Deb Kleckowski Will Serve Seniors Well as State Rep.

This Middletown resident applauds the common councilwoman's push to suspend the state Department of Correction's inmate early release program.

To the Editor:

I  am writing to urge all voters, especially senior citizens, residing in the 100th district to elect Councilwoman Deborah Kleckowski as your state representative.

Senior citizens have no greater friend than we do in Councilwoman Deborah Kleckowski. As proof, she has been supportive of the Middletown Senior Center from Day 1. She is also a proponent of suspending the prisoner early release program. Why is this especially significant/relevant/pertinent to seniors in particular? Put another way, why should we care?

Let me enlighten you — this is a program that has thus far released over 8,000 people with criminal histories — histories such as murder, rape and assault — onto our streets without any supervision. This puts senior citizens — one of our most vulnerable populations — at serious risk.

It's of utmost importance that this program be suspended as soon as possible. I am confident that Councilwoman Deborah Kleckowski would make it a top priority to do so. As a senior myself, I sincerely hope that all seniors will heed my advice and elect Councilwoman Deborah Kleckowski our state representative in the 100th District.
