Breast Cancer Survivor Thanks Salon for Support

Green Lotus employees and customers donate generously to Middletown Relay for Life team

To the Editor:

On behalf of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life team Circle of Hope members, I would like to thank Cromwell's Green Lotus Salon and Wellness and customers for its generous contribution to our team's fundraising efforts.

A fundraiser was held at the salon April 23, where 10 percent of the sales for the day were donated to team Circle of Hope. Pink ribbon and flower cookies, made by the team's captain Kim Sansone, were given out as a thank-you to the customers.

I'd like to tell you my story, as a breast cancer survivor.

On April 22, 2010, I visited Green Lotus to shave my head in preparation and to donate my hair to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program. The next day, I began chemotherapy for breast cancer.

I finished chemo on my 27th birthday. In thinking about the significance of dates and timing, it seemed more than appropriate to hold his fundraiser one year to the day of starting my chemo treatment.

The Relay for Life will be held in Middletown on June 11-12. This event raises thousands of dollars each year for the American Cancer Society to support research and programs for cancer survivors and their families.

Please consider joining or forming a team for this 24-hour event that honors cancer survivors and caregivers and offers a chance to fight back against cancer through fundraising and solidarity. For information, see www.relayforlife.com and search for the Middletown CT Relay event.

Again, I would like to say thank you to the owners, employees and customers of Green Lotus Salon and Wellness!
