Remember Those Resolutions? There's Still Time to Make Good

Uphold your fitness resolutions this year!

"I'm going to get healthy this year." "I'm going to start exercising." How many of us make these resolutions each January? Its one thing to say it in January and its quite another to actually hang on through the summer, let alone spring. Of course we make our excuses; not having time because of work, wanting to spend more time with our children, needing time to just veg out, or the ever popular "I'm just too tired". Despite all of the excuses, swim team parents at the Northern Middlesex YMCA have found a way to stay on top of their fitness goals this season.

Children on the Barracudas swim team attend practice beginning at 5 or 6:00 most weeknights and are in the water for 1-2 hours during that time. On most swim teams you'll see parents sitting in the bleachers reading or catching up on work they brought home. At the Northern Middlesex YMCA it's a different story. Rather than sitting in the bleachers for every practice, parents are getting some exercise of their own.

The 5-9:00 p.m. stretch at the Y is when some of the most popular adult fitness classes are scheduled. Parents have discovered that participating in these classes (ranging from spin class, to kickboxing, to yoga) while the kids are in the pool is a great way to stick to their personal fitness goals. Even if you're not into group fitness the YMCA has racquetball courts, brand new cardio equipment, an extensive weight room, and a beginner fitness area. You can even schedule sessions with a personal trainer!

The best part of all is that the swimmers enjoy it because it gives them an opportunity to see their parents being active. The fact that it gives them something to hold over their parents if they skip a workout is just a bonus!

As we make our way through the winter and springtime arrives, don't forget about those fitness resolutions you made. Don't forget that the Northern Middlesex YMCA Barracudas swim team can help keep you and your child stay active this year!
