Deborah Kleckowski: Hard-working Mother Who'll Work Hard for all Children

Deborah Kleckowski is a tireless advocate for all children and youth in our city.

To the Editor:

Over the past two years, Councilwoman Deborah Kleckowski has worked tirelessly in assisting special needs families by working with local officials and those at the DCF in the wake of the unfortunately-named "scream room" controversy at Farm Hill School.

Councilwoman Kleckowski has also worked with individual families who sought her help in establishing better standards of care for special needs students after the dismantling of the previous district-wide Special Education program that had been held at Spencer School.

Councilwoman Kleckowski has continued to display her advocacy through her membership in the DECA Advisory Board for 20 years, as a state DECA Judge for six years, an annual speaker for the Middletown High School Community Service Program for over 10 years and as a supporter of the Ryan Woods Autism Foundation. She has also participated in the Resolution the 466 labor-breach of contract by the previous BOE Administration.

As a councilwoman, Deborah Kleckowski has supported sick day donation for ill city employees and has been a professional advocate for educational opportunities and access for all students for over 20 years.

She is a member of the newly-created Career-Technical Education Advisory Board....and what is truly amazing is that she manages to do all of this while still being a mother of two young children. Even more amazing is that her advocacy is all volunteer time. Councilwoman Kleckowski does this all for the sheer love of her community.

Councilwoman Kleckowski is an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College and more than that a woman who was born and raised right here in Middletown CT. She is one of our own who is more than ready and willing to fight for her own. She has always been an educational advocate and will continue to be one when elected as our next State Representative in the 100th district.

As Councilwoman has told me countless times, the children and youth of our city are dearest to her heart. I know she will do her best to do right by them all.

Sincerely,

Margaret Huntley, Middletown
