MIDDLETOWN MAYOR DAN DREW READS TO MIDDLESEX YMCA PRESCHOOL CHILDREN

This week, the nation is celebrating the Week of the Young Child, established in 1971 by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The week was designated "recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life" as said by the NAEYC. The Middlesex YMCA’s preschool, Phelps Ingersoll Center for Children, is celebrating with themed days of dress and special activities. Today’s activity involved a special guest who read to the children. Middletown Mayor Dan Drew stopped by and read several stories to the kids, which they showed lots of enthusiasm over. The mayor even led a sing along to one of the kids’ familiar books. Video of that can be found on the Middlesex Y’s Facebook page, “Middlesex YMCA”. The Y’s preschool’s special events for the rest of the week included face painting, wear your favorite color to school day, Dress Wacky Wednesday, wear your favorite hat day, wear you PJ’s to school day, and an International Pot Luck to which the preschool families were asked to share their cultural foods for everyone to try during snack time. Additionally, most years the children are taken to the Russel Library to see the Preschool Art Show for which the kids prepare an art exhibit of their own to be featured. Furthermore, a flyer of events is sent home to parents describing events taking place in town during this week celebrating the Young Child so that they may participate.
