New Blog Will Focus on the Positive Things in Life

Introduction to a new blog entitled Tranquilities and Composures: A look at the brighter side of life. The blogger promises to search out the good news that is too often missing from the news.

It is apparent that everybody loves to rant and rave. People love to read rants and raves because they are more or less in agreement with the current subject of controversy.

Primary to the many rants and raves is a lot of: This should change, that should be different, things should be faster, cheaper, easier, bigger, less and a whole lot better! Reading rants and raves helps people justify their own complaining and they want to jump on the band wagon to illuminate what is wrong with, well, everything. The truth is, the majority of the media we are fed is negative. Does this feed into our rants-and-rave society?

The news focuses on the poor economy, war in the Middle East, violence in our cities, school districts not making the grade, sexual harassment, promiscuity, drug addiction and a battery of bad karma. Some will say it’s what the people want; it’s like the traffic jam that is caused by rubberneckers slowing to view the tragedy that has affected someone else’s life.

I have found even in social networks we can become prey to watching the proverbial bus wreck. I’m sure that everyone, like me, has someone on their FB friend list that barrages the site with ‘woe is me’ negativity. It seems like their life is one poor choice after another with a bunch of bad luck thrown in between. Yet we don’t hide them from our view or ‘de-friend’ them.

We watch from a distance, slowing just enough to get a glimpse. Some will say all the bad news is just a reflection of the world around us and is being reported as such.

But is it? Is the world as negative as the media would have us believe? In my quest to believe that there is at least as much good in the world as bad, if not more, I’ve decided to blog about positive things happening in and around us. If it is true that a smile on your face can change your attitude, then perhaps it is also true that a report that focuses on the positive can change a person’s outlook on the world they are a part of.

And, to be completely idealistic, I think if our outlook can change then we can have an impact on producing more news that is good than bad. While I don’t believe any of us should put our head in the sand and pretend as though the struggles in this world are not real, I do believe it may be time to put a few things in perspective.

And so I present to you the blog, Tranquilities and Composures: A look at the brighter side of life.
