As I write this in the kitchen on this cold and snowy day my Mother is sitting in her sitting room watching an old-time movie. She likes the Turner Classic Movie Channel. That is what she watches the most followed by Bill O'Reilly at 8 p.m. and then, given her mood, either Keeping up with the Kardashians or House Hunters. Yes, you read right.
My mother knows all of the Kardashians. She knows them better than I do. She doesn't like the mother and, for the record, thinks Kourtney is the prettiest/most likeable. Which leads my thoughts to my mother. My mother has always been known for certain sayings. Some of her favorites are the following:
Act like a lady, and you'll be treated like a lady.
Let a fool think he's right and you end the argument quicker.
Be a parent — not a friend — to your children.
Every female relative that I have who comes across this post will no doubt hear my mother in the words that I am writing here. She has said all of the above so many times that I am sure they are ingrained in each of us.
I do think my mother is on to something. Old-fashioned manners and conduct of behavior is a rarity nowadays. And there is something to be said for having good manners. It speaks of the character of the person. Put another way, my mother is totally turned off/appalled by Kris Jenner's conduct. Or, as she has said to me herself, "She's just as bad as her kids....if not worse."
So today I am happy to write about my mother. So many times I will be out and about and someone will ask me if I am Eleanor's daughter. And I am always so proud to say yes. She is every inch the lady. I chose this song for you, mere. I do hope you like it. It's what came to my mind when I thought of writing about you.
Love,
Your proud daughter and biggest fan,
Lea
