Rotary Student of Month is Delia Ernst

Mercy Senior Logs 575 Hours of Volunteer Service!

The Middletown Rotary Club honored Middlefield resident Delia Ernst, a senior at Mercy High School, as Student of the Month at the February 5th luncheon meeting.

“Delia is one of the most charming young adults I have had the privilege of working with in my 40+ years in education.  Delia has demonstrated her commitment to the total school program by participating in a wide variety of activities, clubs, athletic teams, and volunteer service projects,” stated Carolyn Garofoli, Director of Guidance & Counseling at Mercy High School.

In addition to having a 3.85 GPA, Ernst has volunteered 575 service hours at St. Colman’s Church, I Have a Friend Youth Center, World Vision (through The Middlefield Federated Church), Levi E. Coe Library, and Mercy High School.  She is member of both the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, and Ernst is the Business Captain of Mercy’s award winning ALL women robotics team.

Following graduation, Ernst plans to attend college and double-major in history and secondary education; she would like to pursue a career as a high school history teacher.

The Middletown Rotary Club selects Student of the Month based on a combination of high academic standards, community involvement, and extracurricular activities. Rotary maintains its membership from those who live and/or work in Middletown as well as the surrounding towns of Cromwell, Portland, Durham, Middlefield and Higganum.
