January is Rotary Awareness Month- Do you know who your local Rotarians are and what they do?

Middletown Rotarians work to "Lighten the Burden" of those less fortunate in our community- learn how you can join in our club's mission!

The Middletown Rotary Club is more than just an assembly of business professionals that meet weekly for a social lunch.  Our members range from retirees to independent business professionals to CEOs.  The goal of the Middletown Rotary Club is to carry out the mission of Rotary International (RI), an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The 2012-2013 RI theme is “Peace through Service,” and Rotary carries out its mission through Five Avenues of Service:  Vocational Service, International Service, Community Service, Club Service, and New Generations Service. The Middletown Rotary is one of 61 local clubs in District 7980 in Connecticut.  The 2012-2013 district theme is “Lighten the Burden for others” which Middletown Rotarians actively practice through their planned service projects.

The club has provided support to a variety of International Initiatives such as End Polio Now.  After 25 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease.  Additional efforts have been put forth to support a range of international humanitarian efforts.  Middletown club members have been involved in clean water projects in Ecuador and most recently Mexico.

Locally, our members raise funds to enhance the quality of life in our local community.  A sampling of our ongoing outreach includes: assisting local food pantries, providing an annual scholarship for local student(s) in Middlesex County, recognizing a Student of the Month for their dedication to service, annual involvement with One Book Literacy Program, and supporting the Middletown Thanksgiving Food Project.

January is Rotary Awareness Month and the club welcomes new members who share a passion to “Lighten the Burden for others” assisting those less fortunate in our community and worldwide.  If you are interested in learning about the club, feel to visit our website  at www.middletownrotary.org or contact Garry Mullaney at gmullaney@adelbrook.org.  Middletown Rotary meets weekly on Tuesday at 12:15 at First and Last Tavern on Main Street.
