Italian Immigrant Honors Vets in Memory of Husband
Local Middletown resident honors husband and his love for America by giving back to local veterans.
Lena Giuliano, a local Middletown resident, was recently a short-term resident at Water’s Edge Center for Health & Rehabilitation and during her stay she hand-knitted a beautiful American Flag blanket that she wanted to donate to the local veterans. This isn’t the first time Giuliano has generously provided her knitted blankets; she regularly brings by her “suitcase” filled with colorful blankets for the staff to distribute to residents. Furthermore, this past November, she made an American Flag blanket along with dozens of other blankets that she proudly gave to the veterans at an event hosted at Water’s Edge.
Water’s Edge Center for Health & Rehabilitation hosted a cookout luncheon on July 1st for local veterans to honor those who served in celebration of the July 4th holiday where Lena Giuliano was able to pass on her kindness again. When she humbly donated her blanket, Giuliano quietly whispers, “this is in memory of my husband, he loved America.” Giuliano’s husband passed away nine years ago. Both she and her husband emigrated from Italy in 1955 making their home in Middletown.
In his honor, she now takes pride in giving back to veterans.
