A New Year Begins for the Middletown Rotary- Initiatives to Help Our Community

Each July there is a “Change of Guard” in the Middletown Rotary Club leadership as well as within all 33,000 estimated Rotary service clubs worldwide.  The Middletown club thanks Jeff Walter for his leadership and dedication in 2012-13, and welcomes Garry Mullaney as the club’s 90th President for 2013-14.

“Our club has had a distinguished record of service to the community and internationally.  Our membership represents a diverse group of leaders in the Middletown area, and is committed to the Rotary Motto of ‘Service Above Self’,” Mullaney stated.

Rotary Internationals 2013-14 theme is “Engage Rotary-Change Lives”.   Mullaney wants to see the Middletown Rotary Club as the “go to" club in the area, and announced three new initiatives which will support neonatal care, seniors and literacy.

“We will work with Middlesex Hospital for the first two programs.  The five areas of focus for next year are: youth, literacy, seniors, clean water and end of polio (the latter two as part of the club’s international service efforts),” Mullaney added.

Some of the current service projects include the Annual Turkey Drive, Warm the Children, the One Book-One Community Program, Student of the Month Awards to students in the eight high schools in our area, and Amber & Silver Alert to name a few.
