Substance Abuse Prevention Advocates Honored For Work

The Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council honored five individuals and one student program at its 22nd Annual Meeting.

The Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council honored five individuals and one student program at its 22nd annual meeting. 

The capacity-crowd event was held on Friday morning, October 12th at the Inn at Middletown. Alicia Farrell, PhD, delivered the keynote address “Counseling Marijuana Dependent Teens.”

The Best Prevention Program went to student EDGE Teams in Durham-Middlefield. The Harry E. Burr Business Award was accepted by Vincent Capece, CEO, on behalf of the Middlesex Hospital.

Andrea Reu of Clinton won this year’s Father O’Hara Volunteer Award, while Mackenzie Holdmeyer, a graduate of Valley Regional HS, won the Youth Leadership Award.

First Selectwoman Susan Bransfield of Portland received the Terry Concannon Elected Official Award. Special recognition this year went to Sen. Eileen M. Daily, who was instrumental in establishing MCSAAC and the statewide network of Regional Action Councils more than twenty years ago.
