FOUR TREE-LIGHTING CEREMONIES TO BE FEATURED
(Middletown, CT) Daniel Ostrow, Chairman of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Central Business Bureau, announced that Middletown’s 27th Annual Holiday on Main Street will kick-off on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 4:00 p.m to 8:15 p.m. The Holiday on Main Street Committee, led by Co-Chairs Al Santostefano and Rich Greco, invite members of the public to ring in the festive season by attending the four tree-lighting ceremonies along Main Street, Middletown.
Middletown’s 27th Annual Holiday on Main Street is sponsored by The City of Middletown, Pratt & Whitney, Downtown Business District, Apple Rehab Middletown, Eli Cannon’s Tap Room, Greco Design, Liberty Bank, Malloves Jewelers, Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, Middlesex YMCA, Russell Library, St. Vincent DePaul Middletown, Webster Bank, Middlesex Hospital Community Council, and Rag & Bone.
The first tree-lighting will be the Tree of Lights, to take place on the South Green in the Veterans Memorial Gazebo at 5:45 p.m. Middlesex Hospital’s Hospice & Palliative Care Program is charged with lighting the tree and each light of the tree will shine in honor or remembrance of a friend or family member.
The second tree-lighting, to take place at 6:00 p.m., will be the big tree on the South Green and will be led by Middletown Mayor Dan Drew and Santa Claus. Also on hand on the South Green will be the Middletown High School Marching Band and Chorus along with the Woodrow Wilson Middle School Chorus. Last year, over 1,500 people were able to enjoy the holiday sights and sounds on the South Green and more are expected this year. The Carol Sing will begin at 5:00 p.m. prior to the tree-lightings.
After the tree lighting on the South Green, Santa Claus and the Middletown High School Marching Band will lead a parade up Main Street to the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce where the third tree-lighting will take place. The tree on the roof of the Chamber will be lit at 6:15 p.m. This will be followed by pictures with Santa.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m., there will be festivities in front of Eli Cannon’s Tap Room, 695 Main Street, to mark the fourth and final tree-lighting of the night. Santa will arrive to light the tree and there will be elves on hand to provide all the children with complimentary popcorn, cookies, hot chocolate, and other treats.
There will be free horse & carriage rides, and hayrides along Main Street for the entire family until 8:00 p.m.
Each tree-lighting is free of charge to the public.
