Get Connected to Volunteering Via United Way

You can make a difference by volunteering your most precious resource - your time - to a local nonprofit group that needs your help. Find out how!

Now it’s even easier to “get connected” to your community by volunteering your most precious resource – your time.

This week, United Way launched Get Connected, a new and improved online platform to match nonprofit organizations and their volunteer opportunities with individuals and groups that want to take action in their community by reaching out and lending a hand.

Many nonprofit organizations are experiencing an increased demand for their services. Everyone can help by volunteering their time to an important cause. Browse the opportunities posted by nonprofit groups from all across Middlesex County to find the one that best meets your interests and time availability. Then contact the agency, roll up your sleeves, and be prepared to make a meaningful difference in your community.

Volunteers can register and search the site by keyword, agency, or length of volunteer commitment. Be a mentor or tutor. Serve on a United Way Community Impact Team. Work on special events or help out in the office. Get your dog certified to participate on a pet assisted therapy team. Lend your area of expertise to a nonprofit group. All of these opportunities are currently posted on Get Connected.

Nonprofit organizations throughout Middlesex County are invited to register on Get Connected and post volunteer opportunities. You don’t have to receive funding from United Way to participate. Agencies looking for volunteers can use Get Connected to create one-time or ongoing opportunities, manage referrals, post photos from your volunteer projects, and record volunteer hours. Your agency and its opportunities will be viewed by the thousands of people that visit the United Way website every month.

Here’s another great way for you to lend a hand and make a difference through volunteering. United Way is focusing Day of Caring this year on helping out our schools. Day of Caring is an annual event where United Way matches groups of volunteers from local businesses with meaningful volunteer projects.

Schools all across the county are set to welcome a group of volunteers one day during the first week of October. Projects may include storytelling and reading with kids, painting a mural, planting a school garden, and doing arts and crafts with the students. Projects typically last 2-4 hours in the morning, and we make every effort to match your group with a project close to your business.

This Day of Caring opportunity is an ideal way for your business to connect with a local school and improve the learning environment for children. The projects also make for excellent team-building exercises for your company, department, or group.

If you have a group that would like to participate in Day of Caring, register online at http://www.middlesexunitedway.org/webform/day-caring.

Live United!
