United Way is thrilled to have Gary Gomola of at the helm of our 2012-13 Campaign. He is more than capable and hard-working. He is a hands-on leader, a “get in the trenches” type of fundraiser, and genuinely cares about helping people in need and improving conditions in our community. We are grateful he has chosen United Way to help achieve his personal goals of giving back.

Gary is a Certified Public Accountant, Accredited in Business Valuation, a Certified Valuation Analyst, and is Certified in Financial Forensics. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, and National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. All totaled, he has more than 35 years of experience in his field.

Gary’s background includes computer systems, as well as income tax and financial statement preparation. In addition to business valuation and forensic accounting reports, he has prepared business and financial projections and bank financing plans for expanding and start-up companies. He is also involved in business succession and estate planning.

While all of this professional background is impressive, the Gary Gomola we know at United Way is caring and supportive, focused and positive, wise and optimistic. He’s a lover of scuba-diving, travel, and all things to do with The Beatles.

“Those of us who derive a comfortable lifestyle from our community must help those who are less fortunate,” Gary notes. “Not out of guilt or sense of obligation, but as one human being to another.”

Many of us are familiar with Gary and his wife, Pat, from their numerous affiliations with organizations and civic groups. As a couple, they will be the subjects of our leadership giving “roast” on October 18 at the Inn at Middletown. Gary has also been involved with the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce for many years including as Chairman from 1991-92. He is a very active member of the Middletown Rotary Club, having served as President in 1995-96.

Of the numerous awards and recognitions that Gary has received over the years, some of them include the Middletown Rotary Club’s Rotarian of the Year, Middlesex Chamber’s Good Guy Award and Distinguished Citizen Award, and the SBA Accountant of the Year for Connecticut and the New England Region.

Gary is active in his town of Portland, serving in past years on the Board of Tax Review, Board of Finance, Board of Selectmen, and was even chairman of the Portland Junior High School Renovation Committee. And for anyone who is interested in a Justice of the Peace, Gary is one of those, too.

It makes you marvel at how some folks continue to give and give, and then they give some more. I think it’s in people’s blood to be involved in their community and find ways to contribute to the common good. Gary is one of those people, and we look forward to a successful campaign under his leadership.

Live United!
