The group hopes to create an annual tradition with this event for "mothers-to-be" with limited means and support while living in Portland and Middletown.

This year the Portland/Middletown MOMS Club is hosting their 1st Community Baby Shower and hope to create a yearly tradition in sponsoring this event which is for "mothers-to-be" with limited means and support from the towns of Portland and Middletown.

The MOMS Club is an international club for stay at home mothers and part-time working mothers.  he club offers support and carious activities to help moms get through the ups and downs of motherhood.

The club has a Board which advises, supervises and directs the activities and goals of the club.  This year the service project is focusing on moms of limited means to help offer support and education for the challenge of motherhood.

Recently the Portland MOMS Club opened up membership to Middletown and now the combined club will be hosting this event as part of their annual service project.  Carla MacKay President of the MOMS Club says she hopes this will become a yearly event, “getting the whole community involved.”

The baby shower will feature several guest speakers including Dr. Elizabeth Northrop of ProHealth Physicians; will present pediatric physician tips for moms.  Judie Gubala of the La Leche League of Middletown will present tips on breast feeding and advocacy.  Pamela Mehary of Middlesex Hospital’s Natal Department will discuss car seat safety and DTAP vaccination.

There will also be presenters from CCMC with child safety/baby proofing materials.  Jennifer Sheer from the Early Head Start Program and Advocacy Program of Middlesex Hospital will discuss counseling and resource services.  And Diane Murphy of Total Body Fitness will offer advice on pre/post pregnancy fitness.
