Bank of America $5,000 Grant Will Aid North End Housing Support

The money will help fund homeownership training and education, renters' rights outreach and foreclosure intervention in Middletown through the North End Action Team.

The North End Action Team is among 10 Greater Hartford non-profits awarded grants from the Charitable Foundation.

In all, $200,000 in grants were given to Connecticut nonprofits that provide services including building and rehabbing of affordable housing, homeowner counseling, and foreclosure prevention programs.

Izzi Greenberg, executive director of NEAT, says she was just told of the $5,000 grant. "Bank of America has been a consistent funder and we're extremely grateful for their support," she said.

"The money will go to support our homeownership training and education, renters' rights outreach and foreclosure intervention," Greenberg said, and workshops targeted at the underserved North End of Middletown.

NEAT works with many families on all aspects of foreclosures and helping renters understand what their rights are.

"Often it has less to do with the person renting and more to do with landlords. Sometimes landlords don't what they can or can't do and that's something we can help them with," Greenberg said.

Bank of America's support of these programs for the last few years, she said, "is an important part of this neighborhood's revitalization."

The funds are part of a larger housing-related initiative that will benefit underserved individuals and families in 34 states.

“Continued support of high-performing nonprofits is a critical step as we address the impacts of the housing crisis, here in Connecticut and across the country,” said Kevin Cunningham, Connecticut president, Bank of America.

“Helping these local organizations expand their services will benefit communities throughout the state, especially those that are struggling more than others.”
