What's Open, What's Closed on Black Friday

Municipal offices are closed on Thursday and Friday, but the post office is open on Friday.

While Thanksgiving Day is considered a federal holiday, the following day is not.

Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season for many, although many stores are opening Thanksgiving night this year and many people already have their holiday shopping at least halfway done.

But while it constitutes the kickoff to the holiday shopping season and many private sector companies take the day off, the federal and state governments remain open for business, including post offices.

Connecticut state courts are in recess on Friday, Nov. 29. All courthouses, clerk’s offices and administrative buildings will be closed, including Middletown Superior Court.

All state offices will be open on Friday.

All schools are closed on Friday, but federal government offices and post offices will be open.

Across Middletown, municipal offices are closed on both Thursday and Friday.
