New Lights to Grace Middletown's South Green in Time for Holiday on Main

The aging LED lights will be replaced at a cost of $26,000 after the common council approved the cost to lease them from a Glastonbury company at it last meeting.

The aging holiday lights on the city's South Green will be replaced this year in time for the annual tree lighting ceremony, after the common council last week approved spending nearly $26,000 for a Glastonbury company to install them, according to the Middletown Press.

Three-quarters of the white light-emitting diode lights have burnt out, the Press reports, and Christmas Décor of Glastonbury will set up a lease with the city of Middletown, which is expected to cost $9,000 less than buying them outright for $35,000.

Last week, public works crews were out on the South Green off Main Street putting green garlands and other holiday decorations in place in the pavilion area.
