Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the annual holiday dedicated to the man and his legacy. Perhaps the most fitting tribute to Dr. King is to let his words speak for themselves.

The Kansas City Star did just that, eloquently introducing the fourteen quotes that are included on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., by saying:

"We offer King’s words today on this holiday honoring his work. They have inspired people rising up against oppression against communism in Europe, apartheid in South Africa and dictatorships in last year’s Arab Spring. They feed the hunger for freedom."
