Dentist Buying Extra Halloween Candy for U.S. Troops Overseas

As part of Operation Gratitude, Middletown's Dr. Michele Salonia will offer children $1 per pound of candy and send them off with a glowing toothbrush and healthy treats.

For several days following Halloween, a Middletown dentist is collecting children's excess candy for troops overseas in exchange for dollars and healthy treats. 

As part of the Operation Gratitude program, Middletown dentist Dr. Michele Salonia will pay $1 for every pound of candy turned in up to $20 and give children a glowing toothbrush and goodie bag.  

Candy will be collected at the office at 955 South Main Street in Middletown on Nov. 1 and 2 from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and Nov. 5 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Salonia will send all donations to Operation Gratitude to be packed in care packages going overseas to U.S. troops, along with toothbrushes.  

In the last years years, her staff has collected more than 400 pounds of candy and $100 in monetary donations.
